1. Installation and hardware requirements
Translated from the Finnish manual (manual/fi); the Finnish text is authoritative.
Matches version: 0.9 (phase 8, 2026-10-27). Status: ready Windows package (basic version) and the developer install.
Hardware requirements
- Windows 10/11 (Linux and macOS in phase 7). A graphics card that supports Vulkan; the target machine is a gaming laptop of the RTX 3060 class, 1080p.
- At least 8 GB of memory; a 10 km terrain package takes about 1.5 GB after start-up.
- A keyboard is enough as a controller; a RadioMaster TX16S (USB joystick) or an Xbox-type gamepad is recommended (chapter 2).
Ready package (Windows, Linux, macOS)
SupportUAS-<version>-win64.zip, -linux-x86_64.tar.gz and -macos.zip contain the game, one terrain area (Levi, 10 × 10 km), the ground textures, this manual and the install guide (INSTALL.md). Unzip anywhere and start SupportUAS.exe; there is no installer. The game uses the bundled area when the network drive library is not available. Settings and flights are saved in the user folder (%APPDATA%\Godot\app_userdata\Support UAS).
The package is built by tools/package.ps1 (exports the Godot project, assembles the data, precompresses the textures and runs the publication check).
Installing the development version
- Install Godot 4.7.2 (the standard version, not .NET). On Windows:
winget install GodotEngine.GodotEngine. - Clone the repo:
git clone \verkkolevy\Varasto\git\support-uas.git(or whatever address the repo was shared with you from). - Terrain package. Ready-made packages are in
\verkkolevy\Varasto\support-uas\data\tiles\(levi-2km,levi-10km,pallas-10km). By default the game loads thelevi-10kmpackage. A package for your own area is made with the instructions in chapter 14 (requires an API key from the National Land Survey of Finland (NLS)). - Start:
cd support-uas\gameandgodot --path .— main menu: Enter flies, V opens coach mode (chapter 13). Another terrain package:godot --path . ++ --tile=//verkkolevy/Varasto/support-uas/data/tiles/levi-2kmPallas:godot --path . ++ --tile=//verkkolevy/Varasto/support-uas/data/tiles/pallas-10km(Pallaskerot and Lake Pallasjärvi, 10 × 10 km, the nature centre in the middle). The launch site can be given directly:--site=E,N(ETRS-TM35FIN metres, e.g.--site=407775,7523800);--time=YYYY-MM-DDTHH:MMsets the time. A new package is made withpipeline/make_tile.py --name <nimi> --lat <lat> --lon <lon> --size 10000. (forward slashes also work in UNC paths).
Terrain pipeline (Python and GDAL) and the NLS API key
Making new terrain packages requires Python 3.11–3.14 and the pipeline environment. The installation script does everything else: the virtual environment pipeline/.venv, the locked packages (GDAL comes with rasterio, no separate install is needed), a check, and saving the API key.
- Windows (PowerShell 7):
pwsh -File tools/install-pipeline.ps1 - Linux and macOS:
tools/install-pipeline.sh
Options: -Recreate / --recreate rebuilds the environment, -SkipKey / --skip-key skips the key prompt.
The API key is free and personal. Instructions for getting one: <https://www.maanmittauslaitos.fi/rajapinnat/api-avaimen-ohje> — register for the Oma tili (My account) service, sign in and choose "luo uusi API-avain" (create a new API key). The script asks for the key without showing it and saves it to the file ~/.config/nls/api-key (the key is not printed). Alternatively, use the environment variable NLS_API_KEY. The key is never stored in the repository.
Files the game writes
- Flight tracks:
%APPDATA%\Godot\app_userdata\Support UAS\logs\flight-<aika>.gpxand a.jsonwith the same name. - Settings, keys and controller calibration (phase 7):
%APPDATA%\Godot\app_userdata\Support UAS\settings.json.
